Stoïque

Guide

The Stoïque widget on the Lock Screen

Updated

Steps

  1. Install Stoïque and open it once. The widget reads the passage of the day from the space the app shares with it, and follows the language chosen in the app’s Settings, not the iPhone’s.

  2. Touch and hold the Lock Screen until the Customize button appears, tap Customize, then choose Lock Screen.

  3. Tap the widget area below the time. In the list, choose Stoïque, then the widget named Today’s reference. The rectangle shows a short passage with its reference; the circle shows the reference alone — the work over its locator, the way the app icon is drawn.

  4. To put the reference on the line above the time, tap that line instead and choose Stoïque: the inline family carries the reference of the day’s passage, the one the app opens to.

  5. Tap the close button, then Done. The inline and circular families carry the reference of the app’s passage of the day; the rectangle draws from the passages short enough for it. All three change at local midnight. It is drawn in the Lock Screen’s own monochrome, so nothing in it depends on colour; tapping it opens Stoïque.

Widget families

The families the app declares to iOS, named as in its code.

  • Lock Screen widget · accessoryRectangular, accessoryInline, accessoryCircular

What Stoïque does not do

  • No audio: the passage is read, not listened to.
  • No journal and no guided meditation.
  • No Android version.
  • No statistics screen.
  • No side-by-side translation comparison.

Free and Stoic+

The Lock Screen widget is free in all three families, with no quota: it rotates through the passages of Marcus Aurelius. With Stoic+, the rotation also draws on Seneca and Epictetus.

The next step is on the iPhone: install Stoïque, then follow the steps above.
