Stoïque

Guide

The Stoïque widget on the Home Screen and in StandBy

Updated

Steps

  1. Install Stoïque and open it once. The widget takes the language and the theme chosen in the app’s Settings — Paper or Ink, both free — and follows the system appearance until a theme is picked.

  2. Touch and hold an empty area of the Home Screen until the apps begin to jiggle, tap Edit in the top-left corner, then Add Widget.

  3. Find Stoïque in the list and choose the widget named Daily passage, then a size: small, medium or large. Every size carries the passage and its canonical reference. A passage that does not fit its tile is replaced by a shorter one, never shrunk, never cut.

  4. Tap Add Widget, then Done. The large size shows the app’s passage of the day; the small and medium sizes draw from the passages short enough for their tile, so they can show another one. All three change at local midnight; opening the app reloads them.

  5. In StandBy — the iPhone on its side, charging, locked — touch and hold the widget column, tap the plus button and choose Stoïque. The small and medium sizes are then drawn without their background, with a large passage and its reference and nothing else.

  6. With the tinted Home Screen of iOS 18, the reference line is the part the tint highlights: the widget’s hierarchy is size, weight and opacity, never hue.

Widget families

The families the app declares to iOS, named as in its code.

  • Home Screen widget · systemSmall, systemMedium, systemLarge

What Stoïque does not do

  • No audio: the passage is read, not listened to.
  • No journal and no guided meditation.
  • No Android version.
  • No statistics screen.
  • No side-by-side translation comparison.

Free and Stoic+

Every size of the Home Screen widget is free, in the Paper and Ink themes, and rotates through Marcus Aurelius. Stoic+ extends the rotation to Seneca and Epictetus and applies the other visual themes to the widgets as well.

The next step is on the iPhone: install Stoïque, then follow the steps above.
