Terms of Use
These terms govern your use of the Stoïque app and of this website. Using the app means accepting them. They sit alongside Apple’s Media Services Terms, which also apply to anything you buy through the App Store.
Licence
We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use the app on Apple devices you own or control, as described in Apple’s Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement, which applies unless we publish a different one. The app is licensed, not sold.
The texts
The passages are drawn from translations in the public domain, modernized for readability, each carrying its canonical reference and its edition credit. The selection, the modernization, the thematic indexing, the design and the software are ours. You may quote passages freely — that is what the share feature is for — but not extract or republish the corpus as a dataset.
What is free
The daily passage with its reference, every widget family, unlimited favourites, the daily notification and the Paper and Ink themes are free, with no quota and no counter. We do not intend to move these behind the subscription.
Subscription
- Stoïque+ is an auto-renewing subscription offered on a monthly and a yearly plan. The exact price is shown in the app, in your local currency, before you confirm.
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase.
- The subscription renews automatically at the same price unless auto-renewal is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- You manage and cancel your subscription in the iOS Settings app, under your name → Subscriptions. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under its own policy; we cannot issue them.
- If a free trial is offered, any unused portion is forfeited when you buy a subscription.
Acceptable use
Do not attempt to circumvent the subscription, to decompile the app except where the law expressly allows it, or to bulk-extract the corpus. The app is a reading app for individuals; it is not licensed for redistribution inside another product.
Not advice
The app publishes philosophical texts written between roughly 50 and 180 AD. It is not medical, psychological, legal or financial advice, and it is not a substitute for professional care. If you are in distress, contact a health professional or your local emergency service.
Availability and changes
We may change, suspend or discontinue features, and we may update these terms. Material changes will be dated at the top of this page. If a change is unacceptable to you, stop using the app and, if you subscribe, cancel through the App Store.
Warranty and liability
The app is provided as is, without warranty beyond what the law requires. To the extent permitted by law, our liability is limited to the amount you paid for the app or the subscription over the twelve months preceding the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including your statutory consumer rights.
Apple
Apple is not a party to these terms and has no obligation to provide support for the app. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of the country in which the publisher is established, without prejudice to the mandatory consumer-protection rules of your country of residence, which continue to apply.
