Meditations, X, 32

Chapter 32 of Book X of the Meditations. First the passage as Stoïque shows it, after Long, 1862; then the whole chapter, word for word, in that edition, and the same chapter in French.

The passage in the app

Let it not be in any man's power to say truly of thee that thou art not simple or that thou art not good; but let him be a liar whoever shall think anything of this kind about thee; and this is altogether in thy power.

— MARCUS AURELIUS · MEDITATIONS, X, 32

After Long, 1862 — modernized.

Not every widget family holds a passage this long. The app never cuts one: where it does not fit, a shorter passage takes its place, with its reference. The circular widget carries the locator alone.

The whole chapter in Long’s 1862 edition

Let it not be in any man's power to say truly of thee that thou are not simple or that thou art not good; but let him be a liar whoever shall think anything of this kind about thee; and this is altogether in thy power. For who is he that shall hinder thee from being good and simple? Do thou only determine to live no longer unless thou shalt be such. For neither does reason allow thee to live, if thou art not such.
